digging through motown music from the 60s, it’s amazing how great an influence it’s had on musicians since. take, for instance, “please mister postman”, by the marvelettes, from 1961:
this was, of course, covered by those beatles on with the beatles in 1963, which, i’ll admit, is where i heard it first.
later still, carpenters covered the song in 1974. and, china dolls covered it in 2003. [i think this is a good time to state that links out from jumabazaar.org in no way whatsoever imply approval of content at the other end of the link.]
as another example, take 1963’s “my boyfriend’s back“, by the angels. covered [there's no official video for it, so i chose the funniest one i could find] by the raveonettes [a brilliant band, by the way] in 2005 on pretty in black
